Open water swimming - Open water swimming is an activity in which non-aquatic animals (including dogs and humans) swim in large, outdoor bodies of water such as oceans, bays, lakes and rivers. While casual swimming in such bodies of water technically qualifies as "open water swimming," this article will limited to human long distance swimming in open water with the goals of fitness and/or competition.
British Swimming (organisation) - British Swimming is the governing body for swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and open water in the United Kingdom. It is an amalgamation of the national governing bodies of three of the home countries: the Amateur Swimming Association (England), the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association, and the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association.
Swimming machine - A swimming machine is a resistance swimming apparatus, often self-contained, enabling the swimmer to swim in place. This may be accomplished either by accelerating the water past the swimmer or by supporting the swimmer, either in water or on dry land.
Ice swimming - Ice swimming is swimming in a body of water with a frozen crust of ice, which requires cutting a hole in the ice, and attaching stairs to it. This may also be simulated by a pool of water at 0 °C.
